About

Jemma Salmon PhD

Jemma established Jemma Salmon Gardens to spread her knowledge and enthusiasm for plants through the creation of beautiful spaces for clients to relax in and enjoy.

Jemma’s love of plants stems from her upbringing – her parents both studied Botany and instilled in her a love of plants, gardens and gardening from a young age.

Before becoming a garden designer Jemma was awarded her PhD in Plant Biology from the University of York, then worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Scientist at the University of California: Davis. A position at Rothamsted Research working on willow as a source of bio-energy brought Jemma to Harpenden where she established her garden design and development business before moving with her husband and two children to Saffron Walden.

Whilst working at Rothamsted it became clear to Jemma that she wanted to work with plants in the aesthetic sense rather than at the molecular level, so she went back to college and spent three years studying Garden Design at Capel Manor College, Enfield.

Jemma is a Pre-Registered Member of the Society of Garden Designers.
